DEBUT AUTHOR HONORED IN 2021 NATIONAL BOOK AWARDS

Rhona Weaver’s second career as a novelist seems to be working out quite well, if being selected to receive numerous awards for her first novel is any indication. The Arkansas author’s first novel, A Noble Calling, has recently received recognition from four national publishing and writer’s organizations.

  • On May 12, Ms. Weaver’s book was announced as a Category Finalist in the Commercial Fiction Category for the Eric Hoffer Award, which is presented each year by the Eric Hoffer Project, a foundation dedicated to honor the memory of American philosopher Eric Hoffer by highlighting outstanding writing, as well as the independent spirit of small publishers. Since its inception, the literary award has become one of the largest international book award contests for small, academic, and independent presses. The Eric Hoffer Award is an international awards contest open to all books written in the English language during the previous year.

  • A Noble Calling was awarded the prestigious Bill Fisher Award for Best First Book in Fiction by the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA). The book was selected for the award based upon excellence in both writing and design. The award was presented during a virtual ceremony attended by over 500 participants on May 13, 2021. The Independent Book Publishers Association is the largest publishing trade organization in the U.S. with over 3,600 members representing small presses, mid-size presses, large publishers, university presses, and e-book publishers. The Bill Fisher Award for Best Book in Fiction has been awarded by the IBPA for the last thirty-three years.

  • On May 28, the Next Generation Indie Book Awards announced the winners of its 14th annual book awards. Ms. Weaver’s book was selected as the 2021 Best Novel in Action/Adventure and the 2021 Best Novel in Christian Fiction. It was one of five finalists for 2021 Best Novel in the Thriller category. The Next Generation Indie Book Awards is the world’s largest book awards program for independent publishers and self-published authors. It is sponsored by the Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group. The winners and finalists were honored at a live streaming award ceremony on June 25, 2021.

  • On June 9, A Noble Calling was announced as the Bronze Winner for Western Regional Fiction by the Independent Publisher Book Awards. The 25th annual awards drew 4,500 entries; 430 awards were presented to independent authors and publishers from 46 U.S. states and 12 foreign counties. The IPPY awards strive to identify progressive, thought-provoking books that reflect excellence in independent publishing.
